Grymn

For many years, Space Dwarves have been neglected. You will have to have been playing tabletop wargames for quite a while to remember the heyday of the squat ones. But that time is over. The Grymn are here and have been for some time thanks to Hasslefree Miniatures.

Hasslefree Miniatures first produced the Grymn a few years ago and they have become somewhat of a passion of Kev White's. Not only do you get to use dwarves in space, but Ogres, the O-Grymn. Hasslefree Miniatures currently have one in the range, armed with a very large Ultra Chaingun.

Much of the following text is based on the musings of Kev White collected from the Forum Of Doom.

Army Composition
The basic Grymn unit is four troopers plus a unit sergeant. The unit can be split into two man fire teams, but both need to be near the sergeant. The unit size may be increased by adding extra troopers including heavy/special weapons troopers. One heavy weapon trooper may be added for every three troopers. The maximum unit size is 9 troopers and a segeant.

Light infantry: Have the Grymn SMG as basic weapon. They may have grenades as an option upgrade and it assumed that they all have a knife for getting friendly with the enemy. Typical armour is a flak jacket, knee, shoulder and elbow pads and a helmet. Heavy/Support weapons options are Minigun, Grenade Launcher, Rocket Launcher and Flame Thrower.

Heavy infantry: Basically the same as light infantry, but they tend to be of slightly better moral (combat veterans) and use the Plasma Carbine (Pulse rifle) instead of the SMG. The "Heavy" designation comes from their ability to take on heavier targets with their improved firepower. Heavy/Support weapons options are the Rocket Launcher and Heavy Pulse Rifle.

Close Combat (Assault): Equipped with dual machine pistols or Shotguns. The pistols can have either barrel mounted grenade launchers underneath, or laser targeters. Shotguns may have an underslung Grenade Launcher. All members of a unit will have to have the same weaponry and optional secondary weapon. Most grenades used will typically be smoke rounds to cover any advance across open ground. Heavy/Support Weapons options are Flame Thrower, Grenade Launcher and Multi-Barrelled Assault Shotgun.

Sniper: A sniper may act as an individual or be attached to a unit. Snipers will tend to operate on their own, take up a elevated position with a good field of fire, and use their long ranged sniper rifle to pick off targets.

Spotter: A spotter is a specialist model who can provide a to hit bonus to sniper and artillery units. If the spotter can get close enough to the target model to "paint" the target with a laser, other ranged attacks will gain a bonus.

Powered Armour: Come in units of two troopers plus commander. Standard weaponry is a Dual SMG (two linked SMGs in the same casing) and possibly a Power axe for close quarter actions.

O-Grymn: May be attached to standard units in the same way as for Heavy/Support weapons. They are considered to be standard Grymn troopers, just bigger. They are usually armed with the Battle-Suit Minigun or a Rail Gun. Other options include Rocket/Grenade/Missile Launchers and larger versions of shotguns and SMGs.

Battle Suits: Fielded in stand alone units, each Battle suit operator is ranked at least "Captain" in the Grymn armed forces. Standard armament is a minigun and rocket launcher combination.

Data Cards
To go with the army list document, Tom Kiley has produced some data cards for the Grymn. These are designed to be printed out and inserted into plastic card sleeves used by the collectable card gaming community.

Each card holds all the information you need to know about the model during a game. The data cards are available free from the downloads library.
