Halo Attack Bike

Instead of going for the normal marine bike, I spotted the Halo bike on eBay some time back. The advert stated that it was 3" long. That seemed about the right size to use as a bike for a 28mm model. Anyway, bought one to start with and the size did seem to be about right.

The next step was to make a test pilot to see how easy it would be and then decide if the whole project was worth the effort. But being a sucker for modelling projects and wanting something a bit different in the army, I decided I was insane enough to continue. So I picked up a fistfull of Space Marine bike riders from eBay and went to work.

The step was to decide what to do about the bike base. There seemed to be two options, replace the base with a cavalry size base or use the base attached. As the bike have a ball and socket joint, the bike can be made to lean from side to side, this is pretty cool so I decided to stick with the original base. So the "3" logo was filed off the base and then plenty of basing material applied.

The fun part was to be the riders. At least everything is plastic these days, makes cutting and repositioning models a bit easier.

First the legs were cut down the middle and then glued so they were wide enough to sit in the bike easily. A bit of plastic spue was used to fill out the gap.

The marine body had the backpack mount removed and filed down. There was no way the backpack was going to fit on the bike as well.

One of the arms had to hold onto the steering bars of the bike. This involved using a standard weapon holding arm and replacing the hand with a hand that can grip the controls. Once done, both arms are glued to the torso but splayed out a little which looks a bit more dynamic.

Once the torso with arms was done, it is glued to the legs. Obviously.

As the body and legs set, the positioning can be checked. It is important to make sure the model sits correctly on the seat.

The pose of the five riders was varied a bit. All the troopers were equipped with pistols, with the sergeant being tooled up with a Power Fist.

So far, this model has only been base coated and its ready for more highlights and ink.
