Spug Conversions

This section deals with some simple conversions to the standard Spug models.

You will need a pin vice (drill), needle file, a modelling knife, cutters and super glue. All of these items must be used with great care.

Heavy Spug Jet Bike
This model was created out of a Ground Zero Games Phalon space ship and a Spug infantry model from Spriggan Miniatures. The organic nature of the Phalon ship and its size inspired me to create a sort of living jet bike with a Spug pilot. The initial idea was to have the Spug rider sat on the neck of the vessel, but this looked a bit odd. The mounting position for the vessel weapons pod appeared to make an ideal hatch for a pilot! This would mean moving the weapons pod to the side of the hull.

The bits

The bits are pretty straight forward, one Phalon model and a Spug infantry model with an optional helmet.

Chopped body and head swap

The helmets from the Jump Spugs are great accessories and it is just too easy to do a head swap, especially as for this model a helmet wearing pilot would be ideal. The body was cut at the waist and trimmed to fit the opening in the hull. A pin was added to the torso to allow fitting to the hull.

Pilot in position

With the pilot in position, the weapons pod could be mounted on one side. This was drilled and pinned into position with some green stuff used to make a good join.

Remounted weapons pod

The last bit to add was the pilots weapon ensuring that it does not foul on any of the other bits.

The completed model

A quick paint job and the model was finished.

In the game, the model was armed with a nose flamer and a heavy machine gun in the weapons pod. It was great fun to use in the Spug army, all that is needed now is a squadron of smaller Phalon bikes with pilots for support...

In action!
