This was a 1500 point per side battle between the Living Dead and a small force from the Republic of Kothena. The Kothena force relies on a small number of very tough units whilst the Living Dead alwasy seem to have an inexhaustable supply of skeletons and zombies.  Death Riders pile on the pressure against a Kothenian War Walker When the battle started, the Kothena force spent most of their turns positioning themselves to be able to withstand a Living Dead frontal assault. The undead responded by charging across the open ground lead by the Death Riders. The Living Dead cavalry made contact with the first of the war walkers and several rounds of close combat ensued before the war walker was destroyed by the persistance of the Death Riders.  The Shocktrooper Battlesuits prepare to receive a charge The elite Shocktroopers formed a staggered line ready to meet the skeletons and zombies and were heavily outnumbered. The Death Riders, having dealt with the war walker were the first to make contact. The Shocktroopers are almost as tough as a war walker and have the Extra Attack (x2) ability.
The high armour of both the Shocktroopers and the Death Riders had blows bouncing off armour and shields. But after several rounds, the Death Riders fell, but not before a horde of skeletons and zombies arrived to continue the struggle.  The Death Riders charge the Shocktroopers as the skeleton and zombie horde approaches It was looking bleak, the skeletons and the zombies had arrived in force and were ganging up on the Kothena forces. General Bothoc waded into the combat and cut a path through the skeleton and zombie units. His awesome halberd was more than a match against the unarmoured undead fodder. In one turn, General Bothoc inflicted approximately eight Living Dead minions, perhaps the tables had turned...  General Bothoc wades into the battle and wreaks carnage The Kothenan wizard, Shoquillo, moved into a defensive postion as cast Stone Armour on the Shocktroopers, this boosted their chances of survival against the superior numbers of Living Dead. No matter how tough a unit is, superior numbers and the sheer number of attacks will eventually find their way through the best defence. Several Shocktroopers fell to the skeletons and zombies but not before their numbers had been greatly reduced. With the heavy hitting Death Riders eliminated, Bothoc and his Shocktroopers blitzed their way through the weakened undead forces.  Shoquillo remians aloof and casts her magic It was a close run battle, but the Kothenian forces held on for a victory. This was sweet revenge following the mauling they took against the Living Dead a few weeks before. The Kothena Longswords unit did not feature in the main combat as they had been used to assault the Living Dead support weapons on a hill whist the Shocktroopers and the war walkers were left to deal with the bulk of the Living Dead force. As the Longswords had approached the catapult and the bolt thrower, both weapons showed their potential by taking down several of the core Kothena warriors. Some new Living Dead units have been created and may well help tip the balance in the next meeting... |
