Orcs & Goblins vs Khothena

Once again, 1500 points of Orcs and Goblins commanded by Scrollmaster surged out to do battle against whatever Mocaiv decided to pit against him. In this instance, the Republic of Kothena had some newly painted infantry and a new resin steam tank from Ground Zero Games to be tried out for the first time.

Due to the limited number of suitable models painted up, the Khothena forces benefited from having more support units than would normally be used in a game this size. Not that this helped the Republicans much, as one of the mammoth war walkers was destroyed by pesky Goblin archers!

The two sides face off and the Kothena Steam Tank makes the first move

The Khothena Steam Tank made a bold drive straight up the middle in an attempt to draw out the Orc Boar Riders. The Orc Boar Riders responded by advancing towards the Steam Tank.

The elite Orc Boar Riders charge forwards

Although not regarded as state of the art technology by the Khothena armed forces, the Steam Tank is still an intimidating weapon of warfare. It is armed with a medium range battle cannon and protected by some seriously heavy armour.

The Steam Tank

The Orc elite warriors moved into the dense forest as Khothena Longswords did the same on the opposite side. Meanwhile, the Orc Shaman cast Spores on the Orc warriors to increase their toughness and durability.

Khothena Shocktroopers support the advancing Steam Tank

The Shocktroopers spread out in a fan and prepared to confront the Boar Riders. The Orc Shaman cast Stone Armour on the Boar Riders and raised their armour from AR4 to an impressive AR6.

The heavy Khothena war walkers moved up the left flank in an attempt to outflank the Boar Riders. Ahead were positioned a unit of Goblin Archers who felt their chances were good against the massive and heavily armoured Juggernaut and Destroyer. The Juggernaut was moving faster whilst the Destroyer was moving slower and firing at green targets.

The Goblins unleashed a barrage of arrows at the large Juggernaut and in a hail of plinking shafts, two managed to penetrate the heavy armour and cause critical internal damage to the walker.

Combat commences

The Boar Riders got the jump on the Steam Tank and the Shocktroopers and charged into combat. With the enhanced Stone Armour of the Boar Riders, they would be able to go head to head with the tough Shocktroopers.

General Bothoc joins the melee. Note the small dice used as wound counters

The battle between the Boar Riders and the Shocktroopers continued for several rounds with the Orcs unable to inflict substantial damage to the Shocktroopers and the Shocktroopers unable to get past the Stone Armour very often.

The Steam Tank was attacked by Boar Riders and it was not long before the heavy armour folded under the furious assault and the tank exploded in a cloud of steam. The Boar Riders were free to join the battle against the Shocktroopers.

General Bothoc having dispatched the last of the Goblin Archers, moved to turn the tide by taking out the resiliant Boar Riders. The remaining Boar Riders crumpled and the surviving unit of Orc Warriors fell back to take up a defensive position. At this stage, the Khothena units were moving to contain and destroy the Orcs and the it was inevitable that the day would belong to General Bothoc and his men...
