Dwarf Carrier Having recently purchased a large number of Rackham Dwarves for a No Quarter army, all sorts of ideas started popping into my head. As the Rackham Dwarves are mostly steam powered, I started toying with the idea of making a steam ship for the Naval Battles add-on. The steam planes from Armorcast were another model I had been looking for a way to incorporate, so the dwarf solution was to make the ship into an aircraft carrier and go totally steam powered! Design Stage Rather than using an existing toy or model, the aircraft carrier was to be built from scratch. Most of it would be build from foam board and plastic card. The first stage was to come up with the deck layout. I decided to base it on current United States Naval designs with the deck running at an angle across the ship. Making the deck from cardboard allowed a few designs to be tested before the final one was selected. Card mock up The hull structure was then built from card to support the deck. The height of the ship was to be in keeping with other ships being built, so around 50mm seemed appropriate.
